Unity & C# basic open lecture by Interspace Research Center, IIS

Interspace Research Center and Toyoda/Miyake Lab will hold an open seminar on the basic and advanced level of UNITY and C#, for Spring and Autumn semesters.

This course opens up an online course of our internal laboratory lectures/workshops on the UNITY game engine, which is increasingly being used in the field of architecture and design, and the programming language C#.

Eligibility:
Any of U-Tokyo students and faculty members from Architecture, Information Studies, or related fields within the University who are interested in learning UNITY or C#.

Schedule:
Basic Course (UNITY): Spring semester (April–July), mostly conducted in Japanese

Advanced Course (C#): Fall semester (October–December), mostly conducted in English

The basic course is designed for complete beginners with no prior experience in UNITY or C#. Participants will build up their skills step by step, learning to create digital worlds with UNITY. The course also serves as a foundation for applying these skills to research and as a bridge to the advanced course.

In the advanced course, we will explore how to use game engines from the perspective of architectural research. Each week, we will introduce practical methods of utilizing game engines, followed by simple exercises based on the weekly topic. The aim is for participants to gain core skills for using game engines as new tools for research and to be able to further their own original studies.

First session: Wednesday, April 23, 18:00–19:00
(URL to be announced in the below link)
Subsequent sessions will be held weekly on Wednesdays at the same time.
Both the spring and fall courses consist of 12 sessions in total.
Details of the fall applications course will be announced later.

These sessions are designed to be internal technical lectures for students of the Toyoda Lab, however, each session will be made publicly available online. We will also accommodate online participation and Q&A to a reasonable extent.

Instructors:
Basic Course: Youichiro Miyake, Tatsuya Ishimasa
Advanced Course: Kent Lee, Solheiro Hermenegildo
