Dr. Hongxi Yin is a tenured Associate Professor of building science and architecture design at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Yin teaches design/build studios and fundamental building science courses and has led multiple Solar Decathlon projects(*)including OTUS HOUSE. Dr. Yin’s current research is Mass Deconstruction and Radical Building Decarbonization. Before he joined Washington University in 2015, he was an Associate Professor of Architecture at Southeast University in Nanjing, China. He was the Chief Technology Officer of Broad Homes Industrial Co. and led the automation of the design and fabrication of precast concrete buildings for mass production. Hongxi graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Ph.D. in Building Performance and Diagnostics in 2006.
*Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition, comprising 10 contests, that challenges student teams to design and build highly efficient and innovative buildings powered by renewable energy held biennially by The U.S. Department of Energy
